Defrosting Guide

When to Defrost

  • When frost buildup reaches 1/4 inch thickness
  • Every 3-6 months depending on usage and humidity
  • When ice buildup affects door closure
  • When freezer efficiency decreases noticeably

Step-by-Step Defrosting Process

  1. Preparation: Remove all food from freezer and place in coolers with ice packs
  2. Turn Off: Unplug the refrigerator from the electrical outlet
  3. Remove Shelves: Take out all removable shelves and bins for cleaning
  4. Contain Water: Place towels and shallow pans to catch melting water
  5. Natural Defrosting: Allow frost to melt naturally (do not use sharp objects or heat sources)
  6. Clean Interior: Once defrosted, clean the interior with mild soap and water
  7. Dry Thoroughly: Wipe interior completely dry before restarting
  8. Restart: Plug in refrigerator, return shelves and food items
Important: Never use sharp objects to remove ice as this can damage the cooling system. Allow natural defrosting only.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Refrigerator not cooling Power issue, thermostat setting, dirty condenser coils Check power supply, adjust thermostat, clean condenser coils
Excessive frost buildup Frequent door opening, damaged door seal, high humidity Reduce door openings, check door seal, defrost regularly
Water leakage Clogged defrost drain, improper defrosting Clear defrost drain, ensure proper defrosting procedure
Unusual noises Uneven leveling, loose parts, normal operation sounds Level the unit, check for loose components, identify normal sounds
Door not sealing properly Dirty gasket, misaligned door, worn seal Clean gasket, adjust door alignment, replace if necessary
Food freezing in refrigerator Thermostat set too cold, blocked air vents Adjust thermostat setting, ensure air vents are clear

Maintenance Tips

  • Regular Cleaning: Clean interior every month with mild detergent
  • Condenser Coils: Vacuum condenser coils every 6 months
